WHAT ARE CHEMICAL OVERFLOW PALLETS ?

Transporting and storing chemical drums/drums can be a high-risk activity if not handled properly. Many incidents and injuries occurred when containers were punctured and their chemical contents leaked. Just one minute of loss of concentration or equipment failure is sufficient for a serious incident that will result in injuries and investigations by the authorities.

Oils and chemicals need a method to catch a spill from their chemical drums immediately so that the spill never reaches the environment. Spill pallets are a solution to contain barrel leaks and spills before an incident gets out of control.

What is a chemical and waste spill pallet?

Spill pallet is a specially designed pallet with an internal storage area to protect leaks and spills from containers. Although OHS regulations differ between countries, it is foreseen that a spill pallet must protect 110 percent of the volume of the largest container that can be carried on it, or different amounts. In the inspections carried out in our country, the Ministry inspectors approve the containers that will trap at least 20% of the transported container. However, in this type of containers, besides the leakage capacity, the weight bearing capacity is also very important. Because the smaller the leakage capacity, the lower the weight carrying capacity of many models. Spill pallets are usually designed to carry 205 liter drums of chemicals, so their volume is around 230 liters.

Spill and secondary containment pallets are manufactured with perforated gratings and pallet handling designs so they can be easily lifted and transported using forklifts. This means that when a chemical drum is used it only needs to be moved to the floor or work area. At all other times, it can stay on a spill pallet, thus protecting the environment from potential spills.

Where can spill pallets be used?

Chemical and spill overflow pallets should be used where oils and chemicals are transported and stored in containers. Industries ranging from light manufacturing and workshops to mines and factories can all benefit from the use of spill pallets.

Warehouses, in particular, are a big user of spill pallets and often use a wide variety of products. The nature of warehouse activity means that they are constantly receiving, transporting and shipping products. Spill and overflow pallets are essential tools for warehouses to provide a safety net against spills or leaks that may occur during their daily operations.

Another major user of spill, spill and overflow pallets are large industrial areas where mines and operations are spread over a wide geographical area. Spill pallets allow companies to create temporary storage locations close to the point where chemicals will be used.

Examples of industries using spill pallets include:

Mining and exploration companies

Refueling and production facilities

industrial factories

Storage and warehouse facilities

Hospitals

Food and food production facilities

Pharmaceutical production facilities…

How do you clean the chemical overflow and leak pallet?

If waste is poured into a spill pallet, it must be cleaned using different devices and methods. After the spill is cleared, the pallet must be cleared of any remaining waste and debris. This can be easily accomplished using water and a detergent depending on the nature of the chemical. Waste water from cleaning waste from pallets cannot be disposed of directly mixed with rainwater. It should be separated and treated in other waste water units from the field.

Periodically, it is recommended to clean the pallet with steam. The high temperatures it contains ensure that all embedded chemicals and oils are removed from the surface of the waste pallet.

Why should I use a chemical waste and spill pallet?

Waste pallets are the first line of defense for spills containing harmful substances before they spread into the environment. Catching leaks and spills eliminates a negative impact on the environment and also eliminates expensive clean-up costs. It prevents work accidents.

Regulators such as the EPA, which OHS provides, monitor the performance of companies and impose significant fines for companies that do not comply with environmental legislation. Or reorganizes future cooperation issues in audits.
